Al Wusta is a sparsely populated region. Women we spoke to explained that traditional clothes were often very plain; the typical ensemble included an ankle length dishdasha2 with no embellishment, trousers and a shaila10. Today women mostly wear the laysue4, instead of shaila. Women here do wear burqas6 similar in style to the Bedouins of Al Sharqiyah, however the wearing practices of the women of Duqum are markedly different to those in other parts of the Sultanate. Many Duqum locals, from across generations wear their burqas in the home, even sleeping in them.
